The Best Keratosis Pilaris Lotions

The Best Keratosis Pilaris Lotions

If you have keratosis pilaris, you know the struggle. Those tiny, rough bumps on your arms, legs, or butt are so stubborn. They’re basically just clogged hair follicles, but getting rid of them can feel like a full-time job.

I’ve tried a lot of different things over the years. Some lotions felt greasy, and others did absolutely nothing. But the right keratosis pilaris lotion, usually one with exfoliating acids like AHAs or BHAs, can make a huge difference.

So I put together a list of the best keratosis pilaris products I’ve found that actually work. These are the creams and treatments that smooth out that “chicken skin” texture without causing a ton of irritation.

The Best Lotions and Creams for Keratosis Pilaris

AmLactin Daily Moisturizing Lotion

AmLactin Daily Moisturizing Lotion

For just $12, this is a classic for a reason. AmLactin is packed with 12% lactic acid, which is amazing for dissolving the keratin plugs that cause KP bumps. I found it gets to work fast, usually within a week or so of daily use.

It’s also a surprisingly good moisturizer. It hydrates my dry skin without feeling greasy, leaving it much smoother and less rough. It’s my go-to recommendation for anyone starting their KP journey.

The Downside: It can feel a little sticky, especially in humid weather. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it’s there.

CeraVe SA Cream for Rough & Bumpy Skin

CeraVe SA Cream for Rough & Bumpy Skin

This CeraVe cream is around $22 and perfect for sensitive skin. It uses both salicylic acid and lactic acid to exfoliate, but it’s gentle. It also has ceramides to help protect your skin barrier, so it doesn’t cause irritation.

After using it for a couple of weeks, my skin felt noticeably softer and the bumps were less pronounced. It’s a rich cream that absorbs well and doesn’t have a strong smell.

The Downside: If you apply too much, it can sometimes pill up and leave little white flakes on your skin.

Peach & Lily KP Bump Boss Smoothing Body Lotion

Peach & Lily KP Bump Boss Smoothing Body Lotion

At $32, this lotion is a powerhouse. It combines 10% AHAs (like lactic and glycolic acid) with urea to seriously smooth things out. It’s great if you want strong exfoliation but also need some soothing ingredients.

I noticed this one helped with redness just as much as it helped with the bumps. It hydrates really well while it exfoliates, so my skin felt smoother in just a few days without feeling dry.

The Downside: Like AmLactin, this one can feel a bit sticky on hot, humid days.

First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub

First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub

Okay, this one is a scrub, not a lotion, but it’s worth mentioning. For $30, it gives you both chemical and physical exfoliation with 10% AHA and gritty pumice buffers. It’s awesome for tackling both KP and body acne.

I use this in the shower a few times a week before my lotion. It makes a huge difference in my skin’s texture, really helping to erase those bumps and smooth out that “strawberry skin” look.

The Downside: It’s a scrub, not a daily leave-on lotion, so you’ll still need a separate moisturizer.

Eucerin Roughness Relief Body Lotion

This Eucerin lotion is a great value at about $16. Its main exfoliator is urea, which is super gentle but effective. It’s designed for extremely dry, bumpy skin and promises to keep you hydrated for 48 hours.

I found this to be incredibly moisturizing. It really softens those rough patches on the backs of my arms and legs, and the bumps definitely look smaller with consistent use.

The Downside: The texture is pretty thick, which might not be for everyone. It takes a minute to rub in completely.

Paula’s Choice Weightless Body Treatment 2% BHA

Paula's Choice Weightless Body Treatment 2% BHA

This treatment costs $32 and is my top pick if you also deal with body breakouts or ingrown hairs. The 2% salicylic acid (BHA) is oil-soluble, so it gets deep into the pore to clear out that keratin buildup.

It has a very light, almost watery lotion feel that sinks in immediately with no greasy residue. It makes my skin much smoother and helps keep new bumps from forming.

The Downside: Salicylic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you absolutely have to wear SPF on any exposed areas.

Skinfix KP+ Psoriasis Smoothing Treatment Body Lotion

Skinfix KP+ Psoriasis Smoothing Treatment Body Lotion

This one is a splurge at $50, but it tackles everything. It has a blend of glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids to smooth bumps, plus niacinamide to calm down redness and inflammation.

If your KP is red and irritated, this is a fantastic option. Over time, I noticed it helped fade some of the reddish-brown pigmentation left behind by the bumps, and my skin felt much softer.

The Downside: The price is steep compared to other options that also work well.

NeoStrata Resurface Lotion Plus

NeoStrata Resurface Lotion Plus

For $60, this is the most potent lotion on the list. With 15% glycolic acid, it’s designed for severe, stubborn KP and very rough, scaly skin. This is the one you bring out when nothing else seems to work.

It’s incredibly effective at refining skin texture. It feels powerful when you apply it—you can sometimes feel a slight tingle. But the results for really rough patches are undeniable.

The Downside: It’s very strong and can definitely cause irritation, especially if you’re new to acids. It’s not for beginners or sensitive skin.

How to Choose a Keratosis Pilaris Cream

Finding the right keratosis pilaris cream really depends on your skin. If you’re super sensitive, I’d start with something gentle like the CeraVe SA Cream. If you need serious exfoliation, AmLactin or NeoStrata might be your answer.

And remember to be consistent! These lotions work best when you use them every day, or at least several times a week. I like to slather mine on right after a shower when my skin is still a little damp. And don’t forget sunscreen if you’re using a product with AHAs or BHAs!
