Finding the best facial moisturizer can feel like a full-time job. I’ve been through so many jars and tubes that promised the world but left my skin feeling either greasy or somehow even drier than before. It’s frustrating.

The Outset Nourishing Squalane Daily Moisturizer

At $44, this one is a bit more of an investment. But if your skin gets painfully dry, especially in the winter, it’s a fantastic option. It feels luxurious but still focuses on serious, long-lasting hydration.

I found it really helped calm down redness and improve my skin’s texture over time. The squalane and ceramides provide moisture that genuinely lasts all day without feeling suffocating.

The Downside: The price is higher than some of the other workhorse moisturizers on this list.

La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer

You can usually find this for about $25. This is my go-to daily driver. It’s the perfect everyday facial moisturizer that just gets along with everyone’s skin, especially if you’re sensitive or prone to breakouts.

It has a really comfortable, lightweight texture that hydrates without ever feeling greasy. It absorbs quickly and sits beautifully under sunscreen and makeup. It’s just a solid, reliable choice with ceramides and niacinamide to keep your skin happy.

The Downside: Niacinamide is a hero ingredient for most, but a small number of people find it can cause irritation or flushing.

 

 

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer

This one is a steal at around $14. When my skin is freaking out and I suspect everything is irritating it, I switch to this. Vanicream is known for its super simple, minimalist formulas that are free of common irritants.

It’s not a fancy experience, but it’s incredibly effective at providing gentle hydration. It contains hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and squalane to support your skin barrier without any risk of clogging pores or causing a reaction. It’s my reset button in a bottle.

The Downside: The formula isn’t as stripped-back as Vanicream or Avène, so if you’re extremely reactive, you might prefer a more minimalist option.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

At around $20, this is a dream come true for anyone who hates the feeling of heavy cream on their face. If you have oily or normal skin, this is probably one of the best facial moisturizers you can find at the drugstore.

It has a unique gel-cream texture that feels like a burst of water when you apply it. It sinks in almost instantly and leaves my skin feeling plump and hydrated without a trace of oiliness. It’s incredibly refreshing.

The Downside: For my friends with very dry skin, this lightweight gel likely won’t provide enough moisture on its own.

 

 

CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

This is usually only $15. I know it says “PM” on the bottle, but honestly, this is a fantastic lightweight moisturizer for any time of day, especially for oily- and combination-skinned folks.

It’s a non-greasy lotion that gives you all the good stuff—niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides—to restore your barrier while you sleep, or just while you go about your day. It’s intensely moisturizing without being heavy at all.

The Downside: Some people just prefer to stick to the AM/PM suggestions and might want something different for daytime.

The best facial moisturizer for you really comes down to your skin type and what it needs right now. My skin is drier in the winter, so I’ll reach for something richer than I would in the summer.
