The Best Setting Sprays with SPF for Flawless, Protected Makeup

The Best Setting Sprays with SPF for Flawless, Protected Makeup

Let’s be real. You spend all this time perfecting your makeup, only to realize you need to reapply sunscreen in a few hours. Slathering a thick lotion on top? No thanks. That’s a recipe for a cakey, smudged disaster.

I’ve been on a mission to solve this exact problem. For me, the answer is a setting spray with SPF. It’s the easiest way to lock in your look and get that crucial sun protection top-up during the day. So I tried a ton of them to see which ones actually work without messing up my makeup.

These are the best setting sprays with SPF that I found, from mattifying mists to dewy glows.

Best for Oily & Combo Skin

COOLA Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30

COOLA Makeup Setting Spray SPF 30

This one costs $36. If you struggle with shine by midday, you’ll love this spray. It has a super lightweight feel and does a fantastic job of absorbing excess oil for a nice matte finish. My makeup looked freshly applied for hours longer than usual.

I could feel the green tea and aloe vera giving my skin a little refresh, too. It’s perfect for reapplication because it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy at all. It just mattifies and protects.

The Downside: It does contain alcohol, and I noticed a slight stinging sensation when my skin was feeling a little sensitive. It passed quickly, but it’s something to be aware of.

Supergoop! (Re)Setting Refreshing Mist SPF 40

Supergoop! (Re)Setting Refreshing Mist SPF 40

For $20, this is a solid, no-fuss option. Supergoop! just gets it right. This is a workhorse spray that does exactly what it says: sets your makeup, controls shine, and makes SPF touch-ups ridiculously easy.

The mist is incredibly fine and doesn’t leave any weird film or residue. It’s the kind of product you can throw in your bag for a long day out and not worry about your face turning into a greasy mess.

The Downside: I’ve seen some reviews mention allergic reactions. I was totally fine, but if you have really reactive skin, maybe do a patch test first.

ONE/SIZE On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Sunscreen Makeup Setting Spray SPF 28

ONE/SIZE On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Sunscreen Makeup Setting Spray SPF 28

This spray is $39 and it’s built for battle. When you need your makeup to survive heat, humidity, and a long night, this is the one. It truly locks everything down with an intense mattifying effect.

The shine control is no joke, lasting for hours without making my skin feel tight or dry. And it’s sweat-resistant, so you can trust it to hold up. It didn’t mess with my foundation or concealer at all.

The Downside: The SPF 28 is a bit lower than most of the others on this list, so you might want something higher for a full beach day.

Best for Dry & Normal Skin

Naked Sundays Hydrating Glow Mist Top Up Spray SPF 50+

Naked Sundays Hydrating Glow Mist Top Up Spray SPF 50+

At $23, this mist is all about the glow. If you have dry skin that tends to eat up makeup, this will be your best friend. It gives you this beautiful, luminous sheen that looks healthy, not oily.

It’s packed with botanicals and antioxidants, and the SPF 50+ is awesome. It feels super hydrating and refreshing when you spray it on, and it applies completely invisibly over makeup.

The Downside: If your skin leans even a little bit oily, this might be too dewy for your taste. It’s definitely for the glow-getters.

Kopari Sunglaze Sheer Setting Mist Sunscreen SPF 50

The Kopari mist is $34. This one is my pick if you’re chasing that “glass skin” trend. It gives you a gorgeous, glazed finish without feeling greasy or heavy.

It’s made with hyaluronic and polyglutamic acids, so it’s incredibly hydrating and makes your skin feel plump and happy. The mist is weightless and just melts right in. I also really liked the subtle melon scent.

The Downside: The scent is light and pleasant to me, but if you’re sensitive to any kind of fragrance in your face products, you might not love it.

Best for a Budget

e.l.f. Suntouchable All Set for Sun SPF 45

You can’t beat the price on this one at just $15. e.l.f. delivered a product that feels way more expensive than it is. This stuff does everything—it primes, sets, and refreshes, all while giving you solid SPF 45 protection.

It goes on clear with no white cast and doesn’t feel greasy at all. I found myself reaching for this one constantly just because it’s so easy and reliable for daily use.

The Downside: There’s a pretty strong alcohol smell right when you first spray it. It disappears almost immediately, but it’s noticeable.

Milani Make It Last Sunscreen Setting Spray SPF 30

Milani Make It Last Sunscreen Setting Spray SPF 30

For only $14, this drugstore find is amazing. The original Make It Last spray is a classic, and this version with SPF is just as good. It claims to hold makeup for up to 16 hours, and it definitely improved the longevity of my look.

I loved the dewy, non-sticky finish it left behind. It also has antioxidants to help protect against pollution, which is a nice bonus for a spray at this price point.

The Downside: Some people find the smell to be a little strong and that it lingers. I didn’t mind it, but it’s something to consider.

Best for Mature or Textured Skin

Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50 Setting Spray

This one is a splurge at $46. But if you have mature skin or are concerned about texture and fine lines, it’s totally worth a look. The mist is super fine and creates this soft-focus, matte finish that’s incredibly flattering.

It contains hyaluronic acid for hydration and a light-diffusing silicone powder that genuinely blurs the look of pores and lines. My skin just looked smoother and more refined after using it, and my makeup stayed perfectly in place.

The Downside: The price is definitely steep compared to the other options.

Honestly, adding one of these sprays to my routine has been a huge help. It takes the stress out of reapplying sunscreen and actually helps my makeup look better throughout the day. No more excuses.

Whether you need a matte finish to combat oil or a dewy glow to bring dry skin to life, there’s a spray here that will work for you. Just find your finish, check the SPF, and get to misting.
