9 Best Lip Stains That Last All Day, According to Testers

9 Best Lip Stains That Last All Day, According to Testers

I’m so over lipstick that disappears by my second cup of coffee. I want color that actually sticks around, you know? Something that I can apply once in the morning and not think about again. That’s why I’ve been on a mission to find the best lip stains.

Lip stains are different. They dye your lips with a sheer wash of color instead of sitting on top like a traditional lipstick. The result is a natural, just-bitten look that’s totally smudge-proof. After trying a ton, I found the ones that really last all day without feeling like a desert.

These are the lip stains that survived meals, drinks, and long days without fading into oblivion.

Our Favorite Lip Stains

Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain

Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Hydrating Lip Stain

The Fenty Beauty Poutsicle will set you back $28. If you’re new to lip stains or hate dry-feeling lips, this is the one to get. It goes on like a juicy gloss but leaves behind a serious stain that lasts for hours.

I loved how comfortable it felt. It’s packed with squalene, so my lips felt hydrated all day, not tight or cracked. The color is buildable, so you can go for a sheer wash or a bolder look. It just gives this perfect, popsicle-stained vibe.

The Downside: The initial glossy finish does transfer a little bit before it completely sets, so watch out for your coffee cup for the first few minutes.

e.l.f. Sheer For It Blush Lip + Cheek Tint

e.l.f. Sheer For It Blush Lip + Cheek Tint

For just $6, this one is a total steal. I was shocked by how well it performed. It’s a watery tint that you can use on both your lips and cheeks for a quick, monochromatic look.

The formula has hyaluronic acid, so it feels surprisingly hydrating and not at all drying. It gives a really pretty, natural flush of color that you can build up. It honestly felt just as good as some of the more expensive stains I tried.

The Downside: For the longest wear, I found I had to blot it a bit after applying to get the stain to really set.

Wonderskin Wonder Blading All-Day Lip Stain

This unique peel-off stain costs $22. And let me tell you, the process is wild. You apply a thick, blue-ish masque, let it sit for a minute, and then peel it off to reveal a super vibrant, long-lasting stain.

The color is no joke. I put it on in the morning and it was still there late at night, completely waterproof and transfer-proof. It gives a look similar to lip blushing, but without any needles. I just topped it with a clear gloss and was good to go.

The Downside: The peel-off application can be a little tricky. You need a steady hand to get a clean, even line.

Benefit Benetint Liquid Lip + Cheek Blush Stain

Benefit Benetint Liquid Lip + Cheek Blush Stain

This classic tint is $28, and it’s an icon for a reason. It’s a super thin, watery liquid that gives the most beautiful, natural-looking rose tint to your lips and cheeks. It’s the original and still one of the best.

I love this for those “no-makeup makeup” days. It feels like absolutely nothing on the lips and gives that perfect, just-ate-a-cherry look. A couple of swipes and it lasts all day long without feeling dry at all.

The Downside: The color is very sheer, so if you want a bold look, you’ll need to apply a few layers.

Violette_FR Lip Nectar Hydrating Lip Stain

At $29, this is a bit of a splurge, but it feels so luxurious. It has the comfort of a lip balm, the shine of a gloss, and the staying power of a stain all in one. It’s truly a hybrid product.

My lips felt so soft and moisturized while wearing this. It gives a beautiful high-shine finish that eventually wears down to a lovely, even stain. The shades are super wearable and chic.

The Downside: It’s definitely on the pricier side compared to some of the drugstore options that work almost as well.

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

CoverGirl Outlast Lipstain

This drugstore find is only $9. The best part is the applicator—it’s a marker! This made it so easy to get a really crisp, precise line around my lips without needing a separate liner.

The color payoff is fantastic, and it did not budge. I drank coffee, ate lunch, and the color was still going strong. It fades evenly throughout the day instead of getting patchy.

The Downside: Because it’s a true stain, it can sink into fine lines if your lips are dry. I’d recommend using a lip scrub before you apply it.

Huda Beauty Lip Contour Lip Stain

For $25, this one is for people who want intense, bold color from the very first swipe. The pigmentation is incredible, and it’s designed to help you contour and define your lip shape.

It promises 12-hour wear, and it delivers. I found it to be completely smudge-proof with a true matte, shine-free finish. It was easy to blend out right after application but then it set down and did not move.

The Downside: It can feel a bit drying if you don’t prep your lips with a good balm first.

rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint

This K-beauty favorite costs $15. If you love that soft, blurred, gradient lip look, this is the product for you. It’s so much more comfortable than a traditional matte stain.

It creates such a pretty, juicy finish that’s perfect for everyday wear. You can easily layer it to deepen the color, and it stains evenly as the shine wears off. The colors are all incredibly flattering.

The Downside: The initial shiny gloss layer will transfer, but the stain underneath stays put.

NYX Professional Makeup Lip IV Hydrating Gloss Stain

For $12, this is another fantastic drugstore option. It feels more like a hydrating gloss when you first put it on, but it leaves behind a really nice stain as the day goes on. It’s infused with vitamins and coconut water for moisture.

I was impressed by how saturated the colors were and how it kept my lips feeling hydrated for hours. It’s a great one-and-done product for when you want shine, color, and moisture without a lot of fuss.

The Downside: I did find that I needed to reapply it after eating a full meal to refresh the color and shine.

Ultimately, the best lip stain is one you’ll actually wear. If you hate dry lips, go for a hydrating formula like the ones from Fenty or Violette_FR. If you need something totally bulletproof for a long event, something like Wonderskin or Huda Beauty is your best bet.

But no matter which one you pick, it’s so nice having color that you can trust to stay put. It’s one less thing to worry about during a busy day. And that’s a win in my book.
