The Best Non-Toxic Nail Polishes I’ve Tried

Olive & June Long Lasting Nail Polish

This polish costs about $9. It’s pretty much a salon-quality manicure in a bottle, and it’s perfect if you’re like me and mostly do your nails at home.

The wide, fan-shaped brush makes application almost foolproof. I can get a smooth, glossy coat that seriously lasts over a week without chipping. It’s completely changed my at-home manicure game.

The Downside: To get that super long wear time, you really do need to use a good top coat with it.

 

 

Côte Nail Polish

At $18, this one is more of a splurge. But if you want a clean polish that feels incredibly high-end, this is it.

The formula glides on so smoothly and the colors are really vibrant. It honestly wears like a gel polish but without any of the harsh stuff. I have sensitive skin and nails, and this brand has never caused any irritation.

The Downside: The price is a bit steep for a single bottle of polish.

 

 

Kure Bazaar Nail Polish

This polish runs about $22. I was drawn to it because it’s made with 85% natural ingredients, which is pretty amazing for a nail polish.

It performs just as well as traditional polishes, giving a shiny, long-wearing finish. I love its focus on cleaner ingredients without sacrificing the quality of the manicure. The coverage is great, too.

The Downside: The shade range feels a little limited if you’re looking for super bright or trendy colors.

 

 

Sally Hansen Good. Kind. Pure. Nail Polish

For just $9, this stuff is a total steal. I was so surprised to find a plant-based, non-toxic option at the drugstore that actually works.

It gives you a solid week of shiny, vibrant color. The brush is pretty wide, which helps coat the nail in just a couple of swipes. It’s a fantastic, affordable find that proves you don’t have to spend a lot for a cleaner polish.

The Downside: If you have very small or narrow nails, the wide brush might be a little tricky to handle.

 

 

Sundays Nail Polish

This one costs $18. It’s a vegan formula that’s all about nail health, which I really appreciate. It feels like it lets my nails breathe.

The colors are very chic and timeless, perfect for a minimalist look. It goes on smoothly and lasts well, giving you that salon result without any animal products or nasty chemicals.

The Downside: For some of the lighter shades, I found I needed a base coat to get full, even opacity.

 

 

Dazzle Dry Nail Lacquer

A bottle of the lacquer is $22. This is my go-to when I want the longevity of a gel manicure without the UV lamp and harsh removal process.

It’s a whole system, but it’s worth it. The polish dries incredibly fast—I’m talking rock solid in about five minutes. And it does not chip. I’ve gotten almost two weeks of wear out of a manicure with this stuff.

The Downside: You have to buy into the whole system (base coat, top coat, etc.) for it to work correctly.

 

 

butter LONDON Patent Shine 10X Nail Lacquer

This polish costs $18. If you want that super glossy, almost wet-looking shine, this is the one to get. The finish is just beautiful.

The formula is thick in a good way, so it applies evenly and the color payoff is fantastic. It’s really resistant to chipping and fading, making it a reliable choice for a bold, clean manicure that lasts.

The Downside: It still has that classic nail polish smell, though it’s not as strong as some others.

 

 

Zoya Nail Polish

Zoya polishes are around $14. This brand has been a leader in non-toxic polish for ages, and for good reason. They just work.

The wear time is excellent, and the finish is always smooth and professional-looking. I find it outperforms a lot of other brands in terms of how long it lasts without chipping, all while leaving out common solvents.

The Downside: The price can jump around a bit depending on sales and where you buy it.

Making the switch to non-toxic nail polish has been such a simple but nice change for me. I don’t have to deal with the headaches from harsh fumes, and my nails feel healthier overall.

It’s great to know there are so many options now that deliver beautiful, long-lasting color. You really don’t have to compromise on quality to use a cleaner product.
