The Living Proof Full Shampoo is $36. This is one of my long-time favorites for my flat hair.
It cleans really well but also seems to make my hair feel thicker, thanks to the peptides in the formula. It leaves my hair so bouncy and soft without any residue. And it protects from breakage, which my fine hair really needs.
The Downside: The standard bottle goes fast, so you might want to look for the bigger refill sizes to get a better value.
For $38, the Pureology Pure Volume Shampoo is a life-saver for color-treated fine hair.
It’s super lightweight and gives my hair so much movement and body back. It clarifies without being harsh, so my color stays looking good. It’s just a really reliable choice when your hair feels limp and blah.
The Downside: It works way better when you use the matching Pure Volume conditioner with it.
The Kure Bond Repair Shampoo from Amika is $29. If your fine hair is also damaged, you need to try this.
It’s so hydrating but somehow doesn’t weigh my hair down at all, which is rare for a repairing shampoo. It rinses out clean and smells incredible. I take the travel size with me everywhere because it keeps frizz under control.
The Downside: It’s more focused on repair than pure volume, so don’t expect massive lift from this one alone.
The Davines NouNou Shampoo costs $37. This is another great option for processed or damaged fine hair.
It’s so gentle and nourishing. It cleans my hair and keeps my color looking fresh without making my scalp feel dry or tight. It gives just the right amount of moisture without turning my hair into a flat mess.
The Downside: It has a very specific, kind of tomato-like scent. It’s unique, and definitely not for everyone.
This Klorane shampoo is a steal at $14. It’s my go-to when my scalp feels extra oily or has a lot of product buildup.
It feels so refreshing and cooling on the scalp. The minty tingle is real! It strips away all the grease and leaves my hair feeling incredibly light and airy. Sometimes I can even skip conditioner with this one.
The Downside: The mint scent is quite powerful, so you have to be a fan of that.
Shampoo is only half the battle. The right styler can give you that extra oomph and hold that fine hair usually lacks. Here are a few that I actually use on repeat.
The Aveda Invati Thickening Foam is $39. When I need serious volume, this is what I reach for.
You apply it to damp hair, and it instantly makes each strand feel thicker and stronger. It gives my hair all-day fullness and really helps with breakage when I’m blow-drying. I love that it’s vegan and made with mostly natural stuff.
The Downside: To get the best results, you really need to use a blow-dryer with it.
Kevin Murphy’s Doo Over is $39 and it’s a multi-tasking hero for second-day hair.
It’s like a dry shampoo and a flexible hairspray had a baby. It soaks up oil at the roots but also gives my hair amazing texture and soft hold. It’s perfect for refreshing my style and adding a bit of grit and volume without feeling sticky.
The Downside: It’s easy to overdo it. Too much spray can make your hair feel a little gritty.
Finding what works for fine hair can feel like a full-time job. But don’t give up! Sometimes it’s about the right shampoo, and other times it’s the styling product that makes all the difference.
My best advice is to start with a good clarifying or volumizing shampoo and see how your hair reacts. Then, add in one styler at a time. You’ll find your perfect combo soon enough.
